Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023

An interesting collection of 1952-53 Parkhurst cards is on the auction block here, with Gordie Howe’s second-year Parkie one of the nicest elements to admire, its centering, brighter-than-most borders and unblemished surface among the attributes. With EX-MT characteristics, card #88 however is lowered to a difficult-to-determine level by two apparent bumped areas along the bottom front edge. Meanwhile, although approximately half of the set is crease-free and mostly in the VG-EX to EX range (some better/worse), most of the key cards have flaws (oftentimes a small or light crease, to go along with corner wear) sending them to the VG and VG+ world. Rookie cards of Tim Horton and George Armstrong, along with Terry Sawchuk are VG+, while 1-Richard (MK)(minor blue ink marks on the reverse), 3-Geoffrion, 10-Moore RC, 87-Lindsay and 105-Hassard RC are VG. Creasing and minor back issues render 14-Harvey, 53-Delvecchio and 67-Kelly a tad below VG in our eyes. A condition highlight among the stars is 44-Kennedy (EX-MT or very close), with a duplicate Teeder (VG-EX) joined by one other double; 53-Delvecchio, graded FAIR 1.5 by SGC. The not already mentioned creased contingent are in the G to VG+ range, meaning no unpleasant low grade surprises are to come upon. As is usually the case with ‘52-53 Parkies, a few markedly short or narrow cards are in the mix. Several options await you if you land these classic collectibles.
