Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
The face of New York Yankee baseball throughout the 1950s and 1960s, Mickey Mantle is still one of the game’s most popular and talked about players even 54 years on from his retirement. Offered here is a quartet of items featuring “The Mick”. Leading off, a 1947-66 Exhibits is present, showing a young Mantle batting in the home, pinstriped Yankees uniform while no stats decorate the reverse. In excellent condition with incredible appeal only light corner wear and a wash out effect in the top left corner is of note. Next up, is a 1953-55 Dorman #111 of Mantle, featuring a facsimile signature in the top right with Mickey pictured in the Bronx at Yankee Stadium, the card presents well with great appeal and has been deemed worthy of an EX-MT 6 from PSA with just touches of wear to the corners on the front left side to be noted. Rounding out the group is a pair of items from the latter part of Mantle’s career including a 1960s JD McCarthy postcard and a 1968 Topps playing card. The post card, once again shows Mickey in his home Yankees uniform, appearing on a Spring Training backdrop and batting right-handed. Displaying well, the card shows light-to-moderate wear the edges on both the front and backside. The playing card, number 2 in the set, features a Mantle headshot and a facsimile signature. Meant to be a game, the card displays “Single” at the top and bottom edges. Remaining in good condition, light edge wear and toning to both sides is to be noted.
