The recipient of the Art Ross and Hart Memorial Trophies during his lengthy career which also included selection to six NHL All-Star Games, Joe Thornton spent 15 seasons with the San Jose Sharks before signing a one-year deal with Toronto, in 2020. This signed stick was used by the star sometime in the late-2000s/early-2010s, with this specific model seeing use from 2008, to and including 2012. A CCM Vector model with “19 J. Thornton” factory graphics, there is a serial number bar code on the underside of the shaft, with the original white ribbed tape pattern on the handle, with the blade tape removed. A pair of dots have been inscribed on the butt end of the stick. Thornton has added a silver paint pen signature across the front side blade, and it presents beautifully against the black background. Of note, a date stamp of “Dec 05 2008” is found on the shaft of the stick but photos from around that time frame show Thornton using sticks with white coloured inserted blades. Sporting moderate game-use, the blade shows various marks/abrasions with tape residue still present while the heel and lower shaft show multiple marks/abrasions as well. A gripping agent was applied to the shaft at one and has since dried leaving a residue.
