Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
Photo-matched pair of goalie legs pads made by John Brown and worn during NHL play by goaltender Billy Smith while with the New York Islanders towards the end of his career. The pair, worn circa 1988, is very well-used and the pads have been conclusively photo-matched to a heavy leather reinforcing patch crudely stitched to the bottom of the left pad and also to the Brown tag higher up on the same pad... the tag is worn and now only the "OW" can be read. This unique characteristic is also evident in the photo. Billy has autographed the right pad in silver paint pen. Of note, white paint speckles appear over both pads. Superstar netminder Billy Smith is a hero on Long Island, as he backstopped the Islanders to four straight Stanley Cups in the Eighties. He retired after seeing action in 17 games during the 1988-89 season and was enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame with the 1993 class. Comes with a letter of authenticity.
