Two inviting complete sets of Topps’ 1958 and 1959 CFL releases are up for grabs here as part of this lot, with the assembly’s each containing 88 total cards. The older of the two offerings is in a uniform VG-EX condition range. Led by rookie cards of 40-Ploen, 28-Gilchrist and 84-Shatto who present in the condition vicinities of VG-EX, VG and G/VG respectively, it should be noted that both the Gilchrist and Shatto cards show creases, the heaviest on the latter of the two. Other key cards include those picturing 16-Getty (VG-EX – wax stain on front), 18-Parker (VG-EX) 54-Faloney (VG-EX) and 67-Kwong (VG-EX – 1st Topps card), cards showing creases include #’s 1, 20, 23, 36, 37, 46, 69, 76, 87 and 88. Of note, most of the cards have been rubbed with a coin on the reverse to reveal the comic.
The 1959 ensemble presents in a higher grade range with the cards in a fairly consistent EX-MT scope with some NM examples present as well. Showing just a small number of condition exceptions, a couple of key cards fall into this category including those of 1-Rauhaus (G – crease) and 40-Kwong (G/VG – creases along the bottom). Rookie cards of 45-Coffey, 56-Jackson and 72-Mosca are all found in the range of EX-MT to NM vicinity with the only thing of note being slight corner wear on the Jackson specimen. Other keys in the same condition include 15-Dorow/Checklist (unmarked), 39-Getty (60-40 centering), 44-Barry/Checklist (unmarked) and 63-Shatto while card #43 of Jackie Parker displays in EX-MT range with slight surface wear.
