Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
The kingpin of Topps’ 1958-59 hockey issue, the all-important and desirable rookie card of Bobby Hull in this instance is offered in attractive encapsulated form, with Beckett’s BVG department rendering a “5 EXCELLENT” verdict. Light corner wear is most apparent at the bottom right, with a clean, unblemished surface considered attention-grabbing by this assessor. Although crease-free cards (40+) in the VG-EX to EX+ range turn up the most often among the raw rest, condition issues are present/notable. A baker’s dozen (13 cards) exhibit light, moderate or heavy warping, with 8-Howe (moderate – otherwise EX (OC)), 2-Sawchuk (light – o/w VG) and 65-Ullman (light – VG) among them and some of the others with paper loss on the back (14-Wharram RC, 36-Pilote). Cards of 13-Hall (G+) and 52-Delvecchio (VG) are also lesser, with however 30-Shack RC (EX-MT) in the nicer group and 40-Bucyk at VG-EX. Bobby and friends/foes always garner interest, with the Hull rookie here to arrive in a BVG holder free of visible scratches.
