Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/14/2022
Made to entice young hockey players into choosing the brand used by their favourite players to achieve their NHL leading results, CCM produced these skates and sticks advertisements following the completion of the 1939-40 season showcasing the top three scorers of the Toronto Maple Leafs (Syl Apps, Bob Davidson, Gordie Drillon), Montreal Canadiens (Georges Mantha, Ray Getliffe, Toe Blake) and the Boston Bruins (Milt Schmidt, Woody Dumart, Bobby Bauer). Labels with the original cost are affixed to the back of each display that are meant to stand up in the window of a store via an easel on the back. Of note, only the Montreal example retains its full original easel with the Toronto display having most of it missing and the Boston display having it missing in its entirety. The Toronto and Montreal displays measure 21 ½” x 16 ½” while the Boston display has been trimmed and now measures 21” x 16”. The conditions vary with each piece, with the Boston display in the best condition despite creasing, holes, corner wear/tears, edge wear and a partially torn off label on the back. The Toronto display shows the same wear as the Boston example with heavy surface wear and marks along with toning. Lastly, the Montreal display shows corner, surface and edge wear along with fading, foxing, and liquid staining but is free from holes and creases. No perfect but still displaying well, these scarce CCM advertisements are perfect for your "Old Time Hockey" collection!
