Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
A strong rookie card roster and a nifty design has long made Topps’ 1965-66 puck effort popular among collectors, with numerous important elements to fill you in on, beginning with Phil Esposito’s desirable RC, in this instance contributing in EX condition and with toning on the reverse to note. Fellow Hall of Famers appearing on cardboard for the first time include Gerry Cheevers, Ed Giacomin and Yvan Cournoyer (all at VG+), while Paul Henderson’s rookie makes it to VG-EX. A slight curvature is more prevalent in 1st Series cards, with Gordie Howe’s 600 Goals SP card not exhibiting the latter and among the most alluring at EX-MT, with the regular Howe (#108) at VG-EX (the same as 59-Hull), while the two checklists are without marks/creases and EX and EX+ respectively Although there are plenty of VG-EX+, EX and EX+ cards that combine for a majority, the set is not without condition issues; the six team cards at the end all have a crease/wear and are VG or lesser (Red Wings, Rangers), with two staple holes detected near the top edge of nine cards, including Leafs Bower, Horton and Ellis RC, and 1-Blake markedly warped from an elastic band or more. Still, plenty of enjoyment can still be had with these colorful blasts from the past.
