Only the 2nd time that the National Hockey League’s mid-season classic had been hosted in Beantown, hometown hero Ray Bourque’s goal with just 37 seconds left in the 3rd period lifted the Eastern Conference to a 5-4 triumph over their Western counterparts. Hailing from the contest, is this 1996 NHL All-Star Game banner that has been signed by 22 members of that years Western Conference all-star squad. Displaying imagery of the event logo and title, the 35” x 60” banner is made of a 100% polyester nylon construction with metal grommets at the top. Originally hung during the game and acquired by recently deceased HOFer Bobby Hull, who was in attendance to watch his son Brett, a starter for the Western Conference, Hull then had 22 members of the Western squad sign the banner in the locker room at the game, including Gretzky, Hull, Sakic, Gartner, Chelios, Selanne, Forsberg, Hatcher, Savard, Sundin, Coffey, MacInnis, Weight, Bowman (coach), Mogilny, Kariya, Potvin, Osgood, Fleury, Belfour, Murphy and one other that cannot be made out. All signed in gold marker over one side, the autographs show a bit of fading from age but largely remain legible. With the banner itself remaining in excellent condition with a couple of small spots worth noting, the piece is accompanied by a handwritten and signed letter of provenance from Bobby Hull as well as a PSA LOA.
