Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023

A nine-time Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy-winner with eight-50 goal seasons to his credit, Alexander Ovechkin would score 52 goals during his inaugural NHL season in 2005-06, with this rewarded with the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s premier rookie. On pace to top the greatest of the greats as the all-time leading NHL goal scorer, hailing from the genesis of his soon-to-be-HOF-career in 2005-06, we have a signed stick used by the Russian superstar. A CCM Vector model with a heavily faded "A. Ovechkin" stamp over the upper shaft, the stick retains its original tape of white electrical and cloth tape (yellowed due to age) over the handle and knob which also has had Ovi's number "8" penned to it in black marker, while black covers the black from the middle of it up to the end of the toe in classic Ovechkin style. Void of any factory code visible on the lower underside of the shaft, Ovi has signed over the forehand side of the blade with a beautiful silver mark ink signature that displays strong and vivid despite its age. Exhibiting heavy game-use, with marks and chipping to the finish on the blade including the underside as well as throughout the entire length of the shaft, the blade tape exhibits what appear to be some light puck marks over both sides though soiling makes them hard to depict. A beautiful example from the first season of what has ended up being a career for the ages, don't miss out on this one!
