A wonderful grouping of items from the monumental opening of the Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton is featured here consisting of a first game ticket stub, program and three (3) first game attendee certificates. Taking place on November 10th, 1974 against the Cleveland Crusaders, the Oilers would win the first contest by a score of 4-1. Starting with the program, graphics of the new arena as well as the Oilers and WHA logo are found over the cover with “Grand Opening!” and game information found in the top left corner. The condition remains good with light handling wear present as well as surface wear seen on the front cover at the spine and top edge with similar patterns found on the back cover as well. Bends and rippling are also present near the bottom. The ticket stub, measuring 4 ½” x 1 ¼” at its largest areas, shows strong colours while displaying the date, seat and game information, the original price of $5.00 and the all-important “Edmonton Coliseum” venue name along the top edge. Torn at the right side with the left stub still affixed, the stub as a whole shows numerous crease with edge and corner wear also present. Lastly, a trio of first game attendee certificates round out the collection. Measuring measuring 9 ½” x 11” and issued to fans on the date of the first game, the certificates display appealing graphics of the Coliseum as well as the Oilers and WHA logos. All three exhibit wear including pencil marks, edge and corner wear consisting of bends, creasing and small tears while one shows surface wear and two show yellow staining.
