Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
Enjoyed but not overly abused, this 1969-70 O-Pee-Chee's pieced-together ensemble includes VG, VG-EX and EX examples for the most part. The key rookie card #138 of Tony Esposito is in the EX to EX-MT vicinity and exhibiting light corner wear. The rookie card #4 of fellow Hall of Famer Serge Savard has corner wear and soft corners and is in the VG to VG-EX range. Included cards of Bobby Orr includes #24 in EX or so condition with a vertical factory print mark on its front while card #209 is in the EX vicinity and exhibits some corner wear with card #212 in slightly better condition but off-centered. A trio of Gordie Howe cards includes #61 in the EX scope with the affixed stamp on its back and a small dent on the upper right edge to be noted while the Mr. Hockey card (no number) has corner wear and VG-EX and the #215 All-Star (off-centered) is in the EX range. Card #70 of the Golden Jet has the stamp on its back and wax stains on its front along with a light fold line in the lower left area and noticeable surface scratches bringing it in the VG to VG-EX vicinity while his #216 All-Star card is in nicer condition and also has was stains on its front. Hall of Famers cards of #10 Beliveau (VG-EX - soft corners), #30 P. Esposito (G to VG - glue residues on back), #182 Horton (EX - off-centered) and #189 Sawchuk (EX) are joined by an unmarked checklist #31 which has a crease in the lower left area and corner wear (VG) while checklist #132 was all marked and erased and only in fair condition. Most of the cards above #200 are showing and elastic band mark, including the trophy cards, and card #226 has a handwritten "Bobby Orr" on its back. A quick glance through the rest of the pile reveals that cards 12-Hall, 20-Berenson, 27-Hodge, 42-Ratelle, 76-Mikita, 82-Vadnais, 86-Hampson, 89-Parent, 98-Lacroix, 108-Joyal, 110-Binkley and 125-Grant have the stamp affixed on their backs and that there are 30+ cards with creases with the majority of the cards showing corner wear. Missing for completion is card #205. Not a perfect set but you'll have some fun flipping through these.
