Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
The 1990 American League Rookie of the Year and Gold Glove winner Sandy Alomar would cement himself as a Cleveland fan favourite having spent 11 of his 20 years in the Majors with the Indians. Presented here is this catchers mitt that Alomar would use during the Indians 1997 playoff run, culminating in a World Series birth. A Rawlings made Gold Glove model, the mitt remains in good condition with the pocket showing darkening and cracking to the leather. The leather overall remains supple in most areas with drying near the tip and all the lacing is still intact. Showing good game-use, scuffs are seen throughout with a blue ink transfer found near the outside edge of the pocket. Alomar’s circled number “15” appears handwritten in back ink on the backside of the thumb with Rawlings logo patches at the wrist and pinky finger. Sandy has signed the back of the glove under the pocket with a bold black ink signature with the added inscription “97 Playoffs Game Use”. An LOA signed by Alomar will accompany.
