Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023

The 1989-90 Edmonton Oilers proved they could win a Stanley Cup without Wayne Gretzky. Oilers goalie Bill Ranford claimed the Conn Smythe Trophy and captain Mark Messier hoisted the Cup in the wake of a five-game win over Boston in the final for Edmonton’s fifth title in seven years, its first after the blockbuster trade that sent the Great One to Los Angeles. This personal Stanley Cup trophy was presented to Oilers trainer Barrie Stafford. It has acquired a lovely golden patina and displays the player names engraved in three columns, headed up by Messier and including fellow HOFers Kurri, Anderson and Fuhr, below those of owner Peter Pocklington, GM Glen Sather, coach John Muckler and the rest of the team’s executives and staff, including Stafford. The original Boffey manufacturer’s sticker remains affixed to the green felt on the bottom of the round black wood base. There are a few small blemishes and scratches including across the "Ron Low" engraved text. This item was originally part of the Barrie Stafford’s collection sold by Classic Auctions in 2016 and will come with Barrie Stafford’s signed LOA.
