Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
Attaining lofty prices in the past have been the minuscule amount of such Ted Williams pieces to come to auction, with Williams aficionados sure to be reading and observing and calculating while considering this opportunity. Offered back in the day in Canada while the future superstar was beginning to forge his big league legacy, the V351 issue is from the same year as Ted’s official (Play Ball) rookie card, with the splendid young star in 1939 walloping 31 home runs and driving-in a league-high 145 runs while posting a .327 batting average – a fabulous start to a without-parallel career. We rate the offered example as an attractive low grade specimen, its recent FR 1.5 verdict at PSA having to do with a side-to-side crease that is more obvious on the back, two small diagonal creases in the corner regions (top right, bottom left) and a smaller bend down near the lower right corner. The special find will arrive in a new PSA holder free of scratches and take your Teddy Ballgame collection to yet another level – there are not many pieces from Williams’ marvelous rookie season to pursue.
