The three headliners of Parkhurst’s coveted 1951-52 card set and their lofty grades contribute marvelously to this hobby happening, with ’51-52 Parkie sets always garnering interest and the encapsulated lineup here featuring 57 cards graded NM 7 or higher by PSA. Indeed, little fault can be found with Terry Sawchuk’s captivating, well-centered NM-MT 8 rookie card, joined by that of Harry Lumley and five others; #s 27-Sullivan, 35-Ferguson, 59-Leswick, 67-Goldham and 90-Evans, while scoring a notch higher at KSA and earning that firm’s mark of 8.5 NMM+ are cards of 5-Olmstead, 63-Delvecchio and 75-Broda, with 81-Max Bentley a KSA 8 NMM. Ted Lindsay’s important RC and 6-MacPherson are PSA NM+ 7.5s, with 49-Mosienko slabbed the same by SGC. Leading the highlights of a large group (of 48) that merited NM 7 recognition at PSA is Gordie Howe’s iconic rookie card, examined numerous years ago and with corner touches/wear most noticeable at the bottom right. Fellow Hall of Famers at NM 7 include 3-Bouchard, 10-Harvey, 19-Henry, 26-Quackenbush, 37-Gadsby, 48-D. Bentley, 64-Abel, 68-Pronovost, 80-Flaman, 94-Stanley and 104-Rayner, while 52-The Winning Goal and 70-Watson are SGC NM 7 representatives. There’s one lone PSA EX-MT+ 6.5 (58-Woit) and then it’s Maurice Richard, his Punch Line linemate 1-Elmer Lach and Leaf legend 86-Ted Kennedy amid ten at EX-MT 6. Completing the encapsulated segment are 14-Geoffrion (PSA VG-EX 4) and four assessed by Beckett; 43-Gee and 69-Reise at 6 EX-MT and 34-Peirson and 74-Klukay at 5 EXCELLENT. The raw roster is similarly crease-free and mostly at or around EX, with however three cards (15-MacNeil, 40-Bodnar, 29 Schmidt) exhibiting feint evidence of once being pasted, with the latter among a half-dozen markedly short or narrow. We’d say VG-EX for the (correct size) 105-Conacher last card. Possibilities galore are worthy of ample consideration – good luck with this formidable opportunity.
