Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
Mario Lemieux was in his second NHL season and the Edmonton Oilers were two-time defending Stanley Cup champions when O-Pee-Chee released its 1985-86 hockey card effort, with appealing EX-MT/NM examples accounting for a strong majority of this gathering. Unfortunately, the set’s key rookie card of Mario Lemieux is a condition exception, having been recently submitted to PSA and returned with an “EVID TRIM” annotation on the label. In pleasing visual condition otherwise, the accompanying 263-cards include another notable rookie card in that of Al MacInnis as well as stars such as 29-Yzerman, 85-Coffey, 110-Lindberg, 177-Messier and 262-Lemieux Rookie Scoring Leader in EX-MT/NM condition. Of note, the MacInnis card displays 60-40 centering being off right-to-left. Wayne Gretzky’s main series card, listed at #120 on the checklist, is found in the scope of EX-MT+ condition, falling short of its counterparts due to slight wear to the bottom corners. Rounding out the cards, the two checklist offerings remain unmarked and in the range of EX-MT/NM condition. Also included with the set is the complete 33 player/team logos sticker insert set with the Wayne Gretzky one seen in the vicinity of EX-MT+ condition.
