Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
On January 1st 2016, in front of a crowd of 67,246 enthusiastic fans at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA, and an audience of millions of viewers worldwide, two long-time “Original Six” arch-rivals faced each other in the eighth annual Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic, with the Montreal Canadiens defeating the Boston Bruins 5-1. From the game, we have this Bruins jersey worn during the second period by Ryan Spooner (who would assist on the Bruins only goal of the game during the third period). A single flag tag displaying a size “56” designation is found in the inner collar with the Reebok and NHL logos found on the front and back neckline respectively. Styled with a felt 1920’s inspired Bruins crest on the front, Spooner’s “51” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in similar felt material while the all important 2016 Winter Classic patch resides over the right shoulder. Worn for a single period, the jersey shows only two light board burns near the left sleeve cuff and a spot on the back number “5”. A MeiGray patch numbered “M07047” is affixed to the inside hem and according to the company’s population report, the jersey is a “Black - Winter Classic 1/1/16 at Gillette Stadium - Team Set Worn Period 2 - 1/1/16 at Gillette Stadium” specimen. An LOA from the Bruins will accompany.
