Expecting an easy victory against what was presumed to be the less skilled Soviets, Team Canada was shocked in Game 1 of the Summit Series in 1972, handily defeated 7-3, with superstar Valeri Kharlamov scoring a pair of goals. Taking place at the Montreal Forum on September 2nd, over 18,000 disappointed fans attended, including our consignor, though she did leave with a wonderful souvenir. This 10K gold pendent was purchased at the Montreal game, and it's the first we can remember seeing. A small circular 1" pendant with chain-link border, maple leaf and hammer and sickle with crossed hockey sticks, "Canada" and "Russia" appear above, with "1972" below. The reverse has "10K" stamped along with a hallmark. Accompanying the pendant, we have a number of NHL and CFL media passes from our consignors husband Carl Hellmann, who was Vice President of NSP (produced hockey programs) and CFL Properties, including 1972-73 and 1973-74 Toronto Maple Leafs, 1973 Leafs training camp, 3 Hot Stove League passes (2 from 1972-73 and 1 from 1973-74), and 1972 and 1973 CFL passes.
