Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/31/2022
Joining once again, in collaboration with the Montreal Canadiens, Classic Auctions is pleased to offer a large collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the storied club's comprehensive archives. A number of historic specimens direct from the famous team including unique displays that were once marvelously displayed in the hallowed Montreal Forum and later at the Bell Centre are available, with an endless array of legendary and monumental players featured that all proudly once donned the sacred jersey of the mighty Montreal Canadiens.
The latter years of Maurice Richard’s time as an active player with the Canadiens can be seen in this lot of two displays. First, we have a mounted black and white photo reproduction which shows him as Montreal’s captain in an on-ice pose. Outside of a damaged lower corner, the piece will display nicely and has a few minor scuffs and marks on the front. The other display dates to the team’s Centennial celebrations. The photo here comes from the Canadiens’ dressing room and shows him after scoring his 626th goal (including playoffs) – which was the last puck he put into the net during his playing days. With this piece, there are a few scuffs and marks on the front as to be expected from hanging in one of hockey's holy temples, but the upper right corner does exhibit damage. However, this can be excused since it is a unique piece. Direct from the archives of the Montreal Canadiens, the smaller display was likely displayed at the Montreal Forum and the Centennial display was on display later on at the Bell Centre. An LOA from Classic Auctions will be included.
