Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/31/2022
Allowing the skater to travel faster than most vehicles during the era, we offer a trio of exceptional antique ice skate pairs manufactured in the 19th century that were designed for speed skating and racing. All somewhat elongated in comparison to models of antique skates usually found, the oldest pair feature desirable curled tip blades and black-painted wooden bases, with some strapping still affixed to each, with considerable pitting to the blades. The second pair are scarce “Torpedo” models produced by Raymond Skate and Bicycle of Boston, with circular, finished wooden bases and engraved metal step pads. Each skate has fragments of the original leather strapping, with the “Tool Steel” blades showing heavy pitting. The final pair was produced by famous early New York baseball supplier Peck & Snyder and sport finished wooden bases with brass hardware, with the skates remaining in excellent condition with very little wear to the blades. Please note that each antique skate lot in our current auction hails from an advanced 19th century skate collection.
