Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/31/2022
Coming off a rookie year and looking to add more to his game with the Seneca Nationals, Wayne Gretzky, slowly starting to become a household name in the world of hockey at only 15, would do just that by contributing 72 points in 32 games played leading the Nats to a Metro Jr “B” championship. Featured here we have a Young Nationals yearbook originating from the championship season of 1976-77 which happened to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the organization. A young 15-year-old Gretzky is featured on page #34 of the yearbook with his number 9 being featured as well as other players that folks may recognize the names of including Bill Gardner and Gordie Howe’s third son, Murray. The condition of the yearbook remains good, with some minor wear with the majority contained to the front and back covers in the forms of minimal paper loss, creasing, pencil marks, and a slight tear to the top of the front cover. All the pages remain present and in good condition with none coming away from the spine of the yearbook itself. Also included in the lot is a Toronto Nationals game puck that is period correct and displays well with only light wear present to the top logo. Overall, an excellent two-piece lot from the early days of Wayne’s superstardom and a precursor of what was to come! Hailing from the collection of Shawn Chaulk, and originally acquired through collector Kevin McGuffin who in turn was gifted this and the other Nationals items offered in this auction by Toronto Nationals employee Gary Folkes (with the Nationals for a number of years, Folkes held positions with the club such as manager, assistant coach, and statistician), an LOA from Shawn Chaulk will accompany.
