Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
A remarkable artifact that comes to us from behind the infamous Iron Curtain is this Russian game-used Mockba hockey stick that carries an incredible story along with it. Our consignor states they acquired the stick while playing with the Bishop’s University men’s hockey team that went to the Palais des Sports in Sherbrooke, QC to watch the Sherbrooke Beavers, a Quebec Senior League team, play against a Red Army Tier II team. Our consignor shares that they traded their Sher-Wood stick with a Russian player that was using this one, with the Russian marveling at the quality of the North American offering he was now in possession of. Presenting with its original black tape wrapped over the handle/knob, Russian letters translating to “Moscow Special Model” are stamped to both sides of the shaft with half the stamp on the right side worn away. A handwritten “17” is found on the upper shaft in black ink. Exhibiting heavy use, the blade of the stick, which is void of tape but has the outlines still visible, has a crack running horizontally through the middle of it with missing pieces and additional cracks found at the heel and lower shaft. The stick also shows numerous black marks throughout and red paint transfer on the upper portion of the shaft.
