Registering 58 points in 57 games during a regular season marked by injuries, Evgeni Malkin would produce 18 points in 23 playoff games as the Pittsburgh Penguins would hoist their 4th Stanley Cup in franchise history and first of back-to-back crowns. Hailing from the Penguins championship season of 2015-16, we offer this stick used by the Russian superstar. An Easton Stealth CX model with “71 Gino” factory graphics over the upper shaft, the stick retains its original tape job of black over the handle/knob and white on the blade as well as the original factory production and warranty stickers which are affixed to the underside of the shaft. Exhibiting moderate game-use, puck marks are seen over both sides of the blade tape with numerous marks/abrasions observed over the shaft, lower shaft and heel as well. Additionally, a dried griping agent, leaving a bit of a residue, is felt over the shaft. Adding to its appeal, Malkin has signed the heel of the stick on the forehand side with a bold silver ink signature that appears without issue.
Of note, photos show that Malkin would tape the entire blade of his stick during the year this one was used but it seems as though some of the blade tape has been removed and that area of the stick cleaned of any to facilitate the autograph which is seen on other examples from the 2015-16 season that have come to market.
