Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/31/2022
Not very colorful but featuring numerous colorful hockey figures is the interesting and somewhat scarce World Wide Gum issue from 1937-38, with one of the set’s kingpins, Eddie Shore, available here in EX 5 condition. Part of the write-up on the back of card #5 informs of the Saskatchewan native’s pre-NHL days, his first year with the Bruins (1926-27), his rise to stardom as one of the greatest defencemen of all time and his three Hart Trophy wins. Shore was still starring and a force to be reckoned with when cards like this were discovered in packs and captured his fourth Hart Trophy at the end of the ’37-38 season, a record for a blueliner that still stands. Just 28 such Shore cards have ever been encapsulated by PSA in the history of the company, with this (Pop 5) bettered by only six unqualified examples. A superb addition to your pre-war stash this Eddie will be, with no scratches or scuffs to the front of the PSA holder.
