Designed by noted theater architect Thomas W. Lamb and built at the cost of $4.75 million by boxing promoter Tex Rickard, the third incarnation of Madison Square Garden opened to the public in January of 1925, with the New York Americans it’s first resident. Usurped by the New York Rangers the following season, the Blueshirts would prove to be more successful and popular, winning two Stanley Cup championships within the first seven seasons. Ideal for the Big Apple hockey historian or collector, we offer a large MSG Rangers and Americans program/insert collection of 43, spanning from 1928-29, to and including 1957-58. Included, we have program line-up inserts from 1928-29 for Dec 9th (Americans vs Boston), Dec 25th (Rangers vs Americans) and Feb 5th (Rangers vs Maroons), along with programs from 1942-43 (Rangers vs Boston), five programs from 1943-44, one from 1944-45, three programs from 1946-47, three programs from 1947-48, and two from 1949-50. From the 1950s, there are approx 25 Rangers programs, with 11 of the programs accompanied by an original ticket stub (these specimens include the program covers, insert line-up and premium player photo, with the bulk of the program pages removed, with many having separated covers). The premium player photos are intact for many of the programs in the collection, including those of Raleigh, Eddolls, Bower, Howell, Hergsheimer and others. Most of the programs show moderate to heavier wear, with a few remaining in excellent condition.
