Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
Remembered for his devastating right punch as one of the NHL’s toughest players during his tenure, Joey Kocur earned a pair of Stanley Cup championships throughout his 15 seasons shared amongst three different clubs including the Red Wings, Rangers and Canucks. From his lone season in British Columbia, where he saw action in 7 regular-season games, we have a Vancouver Canucks third jersey worn by the Kelvington native in 1995-96. Center Ice labeling with a size “56” fly tag are affixed to the collar, with NHL and CCM crests over the reverse hem. Featuring the classic Canucks “skate” team crest in use from 1978-79 to and including 1996-97, “28” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in layered tackle twill, with “Kocur” across the affixed nameplate in matching material. The fight strap has been cut, and we should note evidence of a former longer nameplate, with Roman Oksiuta first wearing the #28 before being traded to Anaheim for Mike Sillinger on March 15, 1996, while Kocur was traded to the Canucks from New York for Kay Whitmore on March 20, 1996. Originating from Joey Kocur’s personal collection, an LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
Sporting nice game-use with marks and burns visible, there is also a large scrape mark over the lower front. Kocur is shown wearing a third jersey in the March 25, 1996 game vs the LA Kings, and it is unknown if he wore this jersey more than once during his short stint with the Canucks, with the game wear originating from both players who wore the jersey.
