Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023

One of the most distinctive postcard sets of the era, the 1907 Dietsche Chicago Cubs postcards capitalized on the immense popularity the Cubs enjoyed as they beat the Detroit Tigers in the 1907 World Series for their first of back-to-back World Series titles. Also producing similar cards for the aforementioned Tigers the same year this example hails from, the Tigers postcards are much harder to find than their Detroit counterparts. Offered here, we present this 1907 Dietsche Chicago Cubs postcard of famed second baseman and 1946 HOF inductee, Johnny Evers. Having been inspected and slabbed by PSA, the graders at the company have deemed this example worthy of a mid-grade mark of EX 5 with their population report telling the tale of how only nine (9) have ever been graded by them over the years. A pop-4 example, the card shows surface wear over the front as well as edge and corner wear throughout with light spotting/foxing observed on the reverse. Housed in an older style PSA holder, scratches and scuffs are present over both sides that are worth mentioning for accuracy.
