Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023

Debuting with the Chicago "Orphans" in 1898 was California native Frank Chance, signed by Chicago as a catcher and an outfielder. He reportedly first balked at moving to first base (1903) but became part of Chicago's famous Tinkers to Evers to Chance double play combo. By the time this little gem was issued, Chance was out of baseball, having won a pair of World Series championships with the Cubs in 1907 and 1908. Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1946 by the Veterans Committee, offered here, we present this stunning copy of Chance's 1915/16 M-101-5 Sporting News card that has been deemed worthy of a NM-MT 8 designation by PSA. A Pop-1 highest graded offering with only five (5) ever having been graded by PSA since their inception, the card displays stunning attributes all the way around that one would expect from a high-grade example while the image on the front is just ever so slightly off-center from right-to-left. Housed in an older PSA holder that remains in a condition that is the same as the card inside it, only a couple of very light scratches are present over both sides worth mentioning for accuracy.
