Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Losing a mere seventeen contests on their way to claiming the top spot at the conclusion of the 1957-58 NHL season, the Montreal Canadiens would be led on the score sheet by Dickie Moore’s 84 points, with Jacques Plante securing 34 wins. The Habs would face and defeat Boston in the Stanley Cup finals to claim their third-consecutive championship. This Jean Beliveau game-issued stick has been team-signed by the 1958 Stanley Cup champion Montreal Canadiens. A CCM Pattern Made Professional model, “Beliveau” and “4” are stamped to the upper shaft, with supplier “Raymond Hardware” appearing on one side. Additional printing has been added to the top side of the shaft, with “"Malartic Juvenile Hockey – (Most Improved Player – Tommy Jordan)”. Deceased HOF signers include Harvey, Beliveau, Moore, Johnson, Olmstead, the Pocket Rocket and coach Toe Blake.
The additional signers include Provost, Goyette, Marshall, Bonin, Pronovost, St Laurent, Talbot, Broden, Turner and Charlie Hodge. With the majority scripted in green ink and showing varying degrees of fading, a few signatures are harder to decipher, with the Harvey, Beliveau and Moore signatures displaying nicely. The stick shows wear from use, with the black tape intact on the blade. We should note that the stick was most likely presented to Tommy Jordan as a prize, and was never used by Jean Beliveau.
