The coveted cards of those who have always highlighted Parkhurst's landmark 1951-52 card set are offered here in encapsulated form, having recently made the trip to and from PSA headquarters, their condition a good indication of the range of the raw representatives. We're pleased to report that creases are minimal and that varying degrees of corner wear account for most of the grade-lowering aspects. A majority resemble Maurice Richard (VG 3), Bernie Geoffrion (VG-EX 4) and The Winning Goal (VG-EX 4) cards, with the next most plentiful at or in the vicinity of Gordie Howe's GOOD+ 2.5 entry. A smaller percentage present like Doug Harvey's GOOD 2 card and there are no other examples like Terry Sawchuk's multi-creased PR 1 rookie. We find attractive the general uniformity of the light/moderate toning front and back - the vast majority have hung out together for decades. Among the most attractive rookie cards (there are 96 in the set) are those of Kelly, Lindsay and Stanley, while card #1-Lach (F), shows the wear of long being on top of the stack. Please see our website for a few more details and numerous card images - batches of '51-52 Parkies are always full of intrigue and desirability.
Another positive is that virtually no cards exhibit back damage or evidence of once have been glued, the lone exception being 79-Bolton, still with scrapbook paper covering most of the reverse. Just four cards have a side-to-side crease (three commons and 104-Rayner), with a small light crease spotted in 3-Bouchard and 86-Kennedy. The aforementioned Lindsay card measures markedly short. The two cards required for completion are 44-McFadden and 71-Lewicki. Bonuses are duplicates of 13-Reay, 54-Pavelich, 60-Glover, 65-Prystai, 96-Laprade and 100-Hergesheimer. Good luck with these close-to-70-year-old hobby darlings.
