Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020

Featuring the famous “Gashouse Gang” taking on a dominant Motor City squad that registered their highest win percentage in franchise history, the 1934 World Series witnessed the St Louis Cardinals slip past the Detroit Tigers in seven games, with this the final Fall Classic in which both teams were led by player-managers. Produced to support the Tigers and most likely sold at Navin Field as the buildup to the ’34 Series ensued, this silver-coloured walking stick houses a rarely-seen silk Tigers American League Champions pennant. Manufactured by J. A. B. Madden of Detroit, the 36” cane features an inserted metal rod with wooden knob and affixed pennant, designed to slid out and be waved (the rod can be slid completely out and removed). The approx 22 ½” pennant is in Tigers’ orange with screened black graphics, with a large tiger pictured and team members listed including Hank Greenberg and Mickey Cochrane.
As mentioned, the inner rod with affixed pennant can be removed from the cane, with the pennant also removable. The cane shows expected surface wear with light tarnishing, with additional wear to the wooden knob. The pennant itself remains bright and supple, with a few minor wrinkles visible, with these likely reversible through careful ironing.
