This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
Regarded as one of the most influential Canadians of the 20th century, Lester Bowles "Mike" Pearson entered office as the 14th Prime Minister of Canada in the spring of 1963, serving until 1968. Pearson’s government introduced the Order of Canada, as well as making the Maple Leaf flag the symbol of Canada. We have a Christmas card that has been signed by the Newtonbrook native and Mrs Pearson, along with a second unsigned Christmas card. At 7” x 10” (unfolded), the unsigned Christmas card feature’s a coat of arms on the cover, with a mounted photo of Pearson and his wife (4” x 5 ½”) over the left side, along with a Christmas greeting over the right. The signed card is identical to the unsigned example, except it’s just the left portion of the card with mounted photo and coat of arms over the reverse. Pearson has signed beneath the image with a gorgeous ballpoint example, with Mrs Pearson signing in matching ballpoint directly below. With just light wear to each piece, we should note that the photo on the signed card is affixed only over the left hand side. Pearson would pass in Ottawa just after Christmas in 1972, he was 75.
