Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
With his portrait gracing the Canadian five-dollar bill for almost half a century, Sir Henri Charles Wilfrid Laurier entered office in 1896 as Canada’s 7th Prime Minister, serving for 15 years, until 1911. Remembered for his vision of individual liberty, he also sought to establish Canada as an autonomous country within the British Empire. We have a signed and framed photo of the first francophone Prime Minister. At 13” x 16” and affixed to a larger mount, Laurier is pictured in a relaxed, somber moment, with book in hand and spectacles hanging. Signing the mount directly beneath the portrait, the large and flowing Laurier fountain pen specimen displays brilliantly with no issues. A stamp appear over the bottom right section of the mount from Ottawa lensman Topley, with the photo matted and framed to full dimensions of approx 23 ½” x 28”.
Just a small surface bubble is visible over the left side of the photo, with light toning to both the mount and matte. The frame and glass show heavier wear, with a small section cut away over the reverse (approx 3” x 4”), with this glass-covered opening showing an unknown pencil signature and address.
