Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
Martin Brodeur saw action over 32 games while with the American Hockey League's Utica Devils back in 1992-93. He posted a 14-13-5 record with a GAA of 4.04 and managed to record 4 assists! This is one of Martin's well-worn D&R Quantum Deflex blocker gloves from his rookie-era campaign with the Utica squad. The puck-battered piece shows loads of use and has his surname "BRODEUR" screened across the wrist strap. Heavy wear on this one with hundreds of stick and puck marks and a noted curve to the outer board to deflect those careening shots to the corner. The lot will come with a couple of digital images of Martin wearing this style glove while with the Utica Devils in 1992-93. Martin Brodeur holds many NHL goaltending records including most games played, most wins and most shutouts. It will be tough to topple Martin from his lofty perch. Obtained directly from the family of Martin Brodeur in the sale of a larger lot of equipment, the blocker will come with a copied letter of provenance from the family member detailing how they it obtained.
Although Marty did not see any action with New Jersey in 1992-93, he was called up on an emergency basis late in the season and dressed as the backup goalie on March 29, 1993 when Chris Terreri recorded the shutout in New Jersey's 5-0 win over San Jose. He his shown on a 1993-94 Upper Deck card, wearing a 1992-93 jersey with Centennial patch, using that type as blocker as well.
