Trifecta of matinee movie idols signed pieces features Robin Hood’s Richard Greene, who died at the age of 66 in 1985, 1932 Olympic gold medalist Buster Crabbe of Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers and Tarzan fame, and Ben Hur’s Ramon Novarro. “To Grace O’Reilly, best wishes, Richard Greene” reads the late actor’s black ink fountain pen autograph on the late actor’s vintage 20th Century Fox studio-issued 7x5 colorized photo. Crabbe, who died at the age of 75 in 1983, signed “Best wishes, Buster Crabbe” in a big pencil autograph on a 5” x 6” blank autograph sheet with two vertical fold creases. Novarro signed in green fountain pen ink on the bottom front cover of an April 1941 Montreal play program.
Greene’s vintage signed photo has a horizontal crease from the left edge and margin through the bottom of his right cheek at the chin. JSA basic certification number P10711 appears on the sticker applied to the bottom right of its reverse.
The signature of Crabbe, who won the 1932 Olympic gold medal in the 400-metre freestyle swim, has JSA basic certification number P10712 sticker on the blank reverse of his autograph sheet.
Novarro’s signature appears below the horizontal crease fold in the middle of the this “Dans l’ombre du harem” play program from Montreal’s Monument National theatre dated from April 17-20, 1941, with matinees listed on the 17th, 19th and 20th. Novarro, who died in 1968 at the age of 69, is listed in the centerfold in the lead role of Si Abd-en-Nacer of this vintage program that measures 9x6 and features era ads. JSA basic certification number P10715 sticker is applied to the bottom left corner of the centerfold of this vintage four-page program.
