Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
One of the original 12 WHA teams in the secondary league’s first season of 1972-73, the Chicago Cougars would fold after 3 seasons in 1975 due to financial reasons. This Cougars jersey was worn by Brian Glenwright in 1972-73. Gunzo’s along with Rawlings size 46 tagging sits on the inside hem, with no labels in the collar present. Featuring a gorgeous chain-stitched team crest and tackle twill numbers on front and back, with the Cougars being the first modern team to sport numbers on the jersey’s front (the Montreal Wanderers being the first in 1914). We should also note that the nameplate is not the original to the jersey, with the current example loosely attached. An exemplary example from the defunct franchise's inaugural season.
Game-wear on the durene garment includes a few marks on the lower front, along with a substantial team repair over the left elbow. There is also some light staining scattered about, below and above the team crest along with a few spots on both sleeves and on the lower front band. Some possible red goal post paint transfer also sits over the left shoulder.
