Terrific group of original vintage Formula One posters from Grand Prix races in 1967, 1968, 1970, 1977, 1979 and 1980 at the famed Watkins Glen International. The 1967, 1968, 1977, 1979 and 1980 posters are original advertising examples, while the 1970 poster along with a second example for 1977 are post-race recap examples. Featured drivers include Jack Brabham, Mario Andretti and Gilles Villeneuve, with the posters ranging in size from roughly 16” x 20” to 19 ½” x 37”. Highlights include the 1977 poster which shows Mario Andretti leading the pack in car # 5 and the 1979 poster featuring an illustration of legendary Canadian driver Gilles Villeneuve in his #12 Ferrari.
The breakdown for the Grand Prix posters regarding sizing is as follows. 1) 1967 poster – 17 ½” x 21 ¼”. 2) 1968 poster – 18” x 24”. 3) 1970 poster – 20” x 28”. 4) 1977 poster – 20” x 28”. 5) 1977 recap poster – 20” x 28”. 6) 1979 poster – 19 ½” x 37”. 7) 1980 poster – 16 ¾” x 33”. Additional posters accompanying this lot include the following. 1) “The Spirit Lives On 1961-80” Watkins Glen Grand Prix poster featuring Jackie Stewart 16” x 20”. 2) “The Spirit Lives On 1961-80” Watkins Glen Grand Prix poster featuring Bobby Rahal 16” x 20”. 3) 1984 Grand Bay Grand Prix Miami poster 19 ¼” x 24”. 4) 1977 World Championships at the Glen poster 22” x 28”. 5) 1979 World Championships at the Glen poster 22” x 28”. 6) The AMX at Monte Carlo poster 17 ¾” x 23”. 7) “Auto Art at the Imperial Palace” 1982 Caesars Palace Grand Prix featuring Didier Pironi in his Ferrari 24 ½” x 27”. A few of the poster exhibit fold lines as issued, with the majority remaining in pleasing condition. Some also have minor issues one would expect with thin-stock posters, including the odd edge tear, surface dent/mark, crease and corner damage/wear. The “AMX at Monte Carlo” poster features surface wear, with staining and heavy toning to the reverse.
