Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
Who knew that a kid from New York that started playing hockey at age 10 and would later go undrafted, would end up scoring over 500 NHL goals and would earn a coveted spot in hockey’s house of holy? This Penguins jersey was worn by Joe Mullen in 1993-94, and it’s been photo-matched. CCM tagging with handwritten “7” sits on the collar along with a “50” size tag, with embroidered NHL and CCM patches on the back bottom hem. Styled with attractive drop-shadow team letters and tackle twill numbers, the jersey also sports penguin crests over each shoulder. Getty image #142242927 from Feb 13th 1994 has been matched to the black marks on the number "7" on the right sleeve. An LOA from Classic Auctions will be included.
Game-wear on the jersey is especially heavy, with a number of dark marks on the lower front bands and both sleeves. There are also considerable board burns around each elbow, with numerous resulting holes. A pair of holes on the upper right sleeve are also present, most likely from additional burns. Mullen would finish the season he wore this garment (1993-94) with 74 points in the 80 games played.
