Fielding their first lacrosse club in 1866, Cornwall also took part in the inaugural Minto Cup match in 1901 against Ottawa, with the city’s most famous lacrosse alum being hockey Hall of Famer Newsy Lalonde. This antique large-format photo features the 1879-80 Cornwall Lacrosse Club. At approx. 10” x 12 ½” and framed to total dimensions of 17 ½” x 19 ½”, the team is pictured on-field with a grandstand in the background topped by a muted Union Jack flag. “Cornwall Lacrosse Club” along with “1879-80” appears on the mount beneath in gilt lettering, with the photographer H, W. Weber listed near the bottom left. An aged piece of cardboard remains affixed across the top of the frame by way of tacks, with the individuals in the photo listed in thick black ink. The photo exhibits its age, with a number of condition issues including toning, staining and spotting, along with a large vertical area of discolourment that will be visible in our on-line photographs. There is also some light water damage, but thankfully this plagues the perimeter areas, with the photo itself not infringed upon. The frame is most likely original to the photo, with most of the embellishments long gone, exposing the unfinished wood beneath.
