Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
More encapsulated cardboard treasures here were originally obtained by a smoker over 100 years ago and depict Ernie “Moose” Johnson, a Hall-of-Famer who helped the Montreal Wanderers successfully defend their Stanley Cup title seven times, and Horace Gaul who skated for the Haileybury Hockey Club. Both rookie cards have visible creasing, with the former slabbed Good+ by PSA and the latter at Good 2 with an (MC) qualifier. A fascinating story accompanies the depiction here of Australian-born Tom Dunderdale, a lesser-known early hockey scoring machine who, after playing for the Montreal Shamrocks and Quebec Bulldogs of the NHA, headed west to star in the PCHA. Dunderdale was that league’s First All-Star Team center for four straight years and six in total, scoring more PCHA goals than any other player in league history! With important centering issues which led to an (MC) qualifier from PSA, this VG-EX 4 example of Dunderdale’s rookie card awaits your encapsulated tobacco card stash. From Imperial Tobacco’s landmark inaugural hockey card effort and perfect for those not requiring lofty grades, these C56s are sure to please.
