Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
Mario Lemieux’s 100-point rookie season stats are featured on the back of his 1985-86 rookie cards, with the O-Pee-Chee threesome here led by a well-centered and appealing NM-MT example. A second is not far behind at NM, while a third is technically low grade due to a stain in the upper right corner region and a pen mark on the reverse. At NM or better are the rest of Super Mario’s regular OPC issues from the 1980s. The remainder of the pile features classic card-boom era examples put out by Upper Deck, Score, Pro Set, OPC, Fleer, Leaf and other companies, with one still carrying some interesting weight. A special autographed card numbered out of 2000 was available in Leaf foil packs in 1993-94 and these days “books” for $120. A nice shot of Mario in his heyday is accompanied by a black felt pen autograph, with the card numbered “0460/2000” on the back, where text includes, “Leaf is proud to have the NHL’s ultimate player, both on and off the ice, as our hockey card spokesperson.”
