This large and diverse group of early hockey guides totals 22, and it includes a number of rarities and seldom seen examples packed with vital information and imagery. We have NHA/NHL guides from 1916, 1922 and 1924, “Hockey Hour” guides for 1927-28 and 1928-29, 8 “Official” NHL Rule Books from the 1940’s (with duplication), and an assortment of other examples including a pair of Stoneham guides from the late-1930s, a pair of Ross Print guides from the early 1930s and an “Official” collegiate guide from 1942. There is even a German guide, along with a few other neat publications. Most remain in supple readable condition, with just expected handling wear which includes creasing, toning, light staple rust and corner/spine wear.
The 1927-28 Hockey Hour guide shows considerable wear, with staining, pen marks, spine damage, soiling and heavy toning. The back cover is missing, with heavy rust to the staples. The early NHA/NHL guides also show some moderate wear, with toning and fading. The cover for the 1916 edition is also partially detached and brittle.
