Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
The only World Championship win celebrated in Brooklyn, the 1955 World Series would be the fifth time in ten years that the Dodgers would meet the crosstown Yankees in the Fall Classic. A home-advantage series, after losing the first two games at Yankee Stadium, the Dodgers would convincingly take the next three played at Ebbets Field. Back to the Bronx for Game 6, Whitey Ford would only give up four hits and a single run to force Game 7. The Dodgers would keep the Yankees off the scoreboard in the deciding game, for the city’s only World Series Championship. The seventh game would be the only one in the Series to be won by the visiting club. In this lot we have a pair of programs from the Series, with an example from each venue, both unscored. Also included are phantom programs for the 1951 World Series (Dodgers vs Yankees) and 1946 Series (Dodgers vs Red Sox).
At just under 9” x 12”, each of the 1955 programs remain in pleasing condition, with just regular expected handling wear including light creasing, toning, surface dents and spine/edge wear. While not high-grade examples, both programs will display well. The 1946 phantom program exhibits condition issues, with pencil writing to the cover, along with surface/corner wear, spine damage, toning and creasing. The ’51 phantom remains in nice shape, with just some honest handling wear, along with some light wear to the spine.
