This desirable lot features 6 World Series programs, with three sets of pairs for the 1926, 1931 and 1934 Series. The 1926 Series between the Cardinal and Yankees went the full seven games, with an exciting strikeout of Tony Lazzeri by Grover Alexander in the final game with the bases loaded, for the Cards first Series win. The 1931 Series would again see the Cards, this time taking on the Philadelphia Athletics. The Athletics were looking for their third consecutive Series win, but despite scoring 22 runs, they went down in seven games. 1934 would again see St. Louis in the Series, this time facing the Detroit Tigers who had not seen the postseason finals since 1909. Again going the full distance, the Gashouse Gang would secure their third championship in nine years with Dizzy Dean shutting-out the Tigers in Game 7.
The condition for the six offered World Series programs are as follows. 1) 1926 program issued for Sportsman’s Park (7 ¾” x 10 ½”), scored for Game 3. In nice solid condition with all pages and covers firmly attached, there is the occasional crease along with just light wear to the spine. With the interior fairly clean along with an ink date, the program has been scored in pencil. 2) 1926 program issued for Yankee Stadium (9 ¼” x 11”), scored for Game 1. A typical vertical crease is present along with a pencil notation along the top border stating “Game 1”. There are creases present to the cover and edge wear, as well as tears along a majority of the spine which includes interior pages. There is also staining and toning, especially on the back cover. 3) 1931 program issued for Shibe Park (8 ½” x 11”), unscored. The cover exhibits surface wear along with toning. Firmly attached at the staples, the interior also exhibits some toning and light wear. 4) 1931 program issued for Sportsman’s Park (9” x 12”), scored for Game 2. With a typical vertical crease present, there is also additional cover creases along with a few small edge tears. The cover is detached at the top staple, with the center spread also loose but present. The interior also exhibits heavy creasing with a small chunk out of one of the pages. 5) 1934 program issued for Sportsman’s Park (9” x 12”), unscored. In pleasing condition, the program has the odd crease along with some surface wear and a small amount of paper adhered to the back cover. The interior also has a number of creases along with light toning. 6) 1934 program issued for Navin Field (8 ¼” x 11”), scored for Game 5. The cover exhibits toning and light surface discolouration, with the front and back covers firmly attached. The interior is clean with just the odd mark present, with the center spread detached.
