The second consecutive World Series appearance for the Washington Senators, the 1925 Series against the Pirates would be closely contested going the full seven games. Despite a 3-1 lead in the Series, Pittsburgh would win the next two, for a deciding seventh game. With Johnson on the mound trying to secure his third win in the Series, the Senators were plagued with errors, with Roger Peckinpaugh committing eight including in the seventh and eighth innings allowing four unearned runs for a Pittsburgh Series victory. The Pirates thus became the first team in World Series history to overcome a 3-1 game deficit. In this lot we have a pair of unscored 1925 World Series programs with examples for both Forbes Field and Griffith Stadium.
At 8” 10 ½”, the Griffith Stadium program features portraits of the participating club’s managers on the cover, along with a number of individual images of Senators packed into it’s 64 pages. There are a few small creases along with a tear along the base of the spine that continues to the bottom staple. The interior remains clean with the center pages starting to become detached from the intact staples. Despite these flaws, the program remains supple, with excellent display value. The Forbes Field Program measures roughly 9” x 10 ½”, and it features advertising on the cover along with a small cameo of Pirates team president Barney Dreyfuss. Exhibiting a number of condition issues, the program has clear tape that’s been applied to tears along with most edges on most pages. With a large vertical crease, there are also areas of paper loss that have been filled-in along with added colour. Despite these many considerable flaws, the program is complete and displays fairly well.
