Spectacular Boston Bruins wool jersey was worn by Hall-of-Famer Bill Cowley late in his 12-year career with the Boston Bruins. After breaking into the NHL with the St. Louis Eagles in 1934-35 Cowley was claimed by the Bruins in the dispersal draft after the Eagles folded. What a pick-up that proved to be! Cowley was an expert passer who led the league in scoring in 1941 and was the league's MVP that season and again in 1943. The 4-time first All-Star team member helped the Bruins to 2 Stanley Cup championships and before he retired in 1947 Cowley broke Syd Howe's record for most points, regular season and playoffs combined. Our research leads us to believe that Cowley wore this Bruins sweater at the end of his career. The light use suggests it was from a new set of uniforms produced for the Bruins. The jersey is tagged in the inner rear hem by the Horace Partridge Co. of Boston in size 42. The silk-like numbers on the front and back are outlined in black brocade as are the "B"s on the shoulders. Again, the sweater shows very little game use; one small hole at the seam along the right shoulder was repaired, while a dozen others were not. Four of them are on the back, 3 on the front in the upper striping, 4 more on the left sleeve and the other at the right cuff. There are 10 small brown marks, more like "specs" below the "1" on the front. The exceptional sweater has been preserved in outstanding condition and was originally obtained directly from Bill Cowley's family. Please take note that this item may be subject to a silent reserve. Comes with a letter of authenticity.
