It is with extreme pleasure, excitement and honor that we offer this significant Canadiens game-worn wool sweater, donned by the legendary Doug Harvey during the special 1959-60 season, a prelude to the Habs’ record fifth Stanley Cup championship. The powerful Montreal squad put together a 40-win, 92-point season, tops in the NHL, as Beliveau, Henri Richard and Geoffrion finished in the top ten of league scoring while the masterful Harvey anchored the blueline corps, winning his fifth of seven consecutive Norris trophies while helping Jacques Plante to his fifth straight Vezina Trophy. Known for being able to dictate the tempo of a game and launch the Canadiens feared power play, Harvey truly was unrivaled.
Doug's wool sweater, that can be photo-matched to a February 10th, 1960 photo from a game at Maple Leaf Gardens, had the alternate captain's "A" removed at some point, with the tri-color felt team crest and his blue-on-red felt number "2" on the back still intact. Tackle twill "2"s are sewn on the sleeves and the tie-neck style sweater shows heavy game use with multiple team repairs to tell you about. Most important are two side-by-side dime-size affairs above the red stripe on the front that mended two holes that show up clearly in our photo, along with a nearby repair and one in the red stripe itself. We count nine other repairs on the front, a total of 13 on the sleeves and 10 on the back. Miscellaneous holes throughout are also to mention, including two sizeable ones on each sleeve. With a "L.J. Parent & Fils Ltee - Montreal" tag still in the neck, the sweater includes some bleeding at the cuffs and along the front hem. Please take note that this item may be subject to a silent reserve. A letter of authenticity will be included.
