Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/3/2015
Legends Bobby Hull and Gordie Howe, respectively hockey’s greatest left winger and right winger, lead the cast of these classic WHA collectibles, with (20) 1973-74 mini posters in as-issued, issue-free condition getting the parade going. Four OPC card sets are generally in impressive NM-or-better shape, with a few individual card exceptions along the way. The ’74-75 ensemble may be the sharpest, with intermittent less-than-perfect and at times atrocious centering spotted in the ’75-76 and ’76-77 sets. All checklists are unmarked, with the likes of the Howe boys, Mahovlich, Hedberg and Nilsson, Stapleton, Tremblay, Henderson and others fun to check out again. Ditto for a 50-card run of 2009 In The Game WHA cards and a 10-card WHA Hall of Fame set from the following year. Please see our website for further condition details. Addendum; the catalog description stated originally there were 24 1973-74 mini-posters but there are 20 which is the complete set.
Most notable condition exceptions to the aforementioned NM-or-better include the ’75-76 Mark Howe rookie card, (edge wear drops it to EX), two Gordie Howe cards from the same year, (66-All-Star at VG+ due to a light crease, #100 at EX) and a badly-centered Jacques Plante card. The #1 Gordie card from the ’77-78 set, commemorating his 1000th goal, is affected by multiple light creases, while a dinged up left corner on #50 from ’76-77 contributes to an EX grade. Overall though, these cards and posters have been well-preserved and show little handling.
