Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/3/2015
Born in Treviso Italy, Peter Dalla Riva moved to Hamilton in his youth and quickly learnt the game of Canadian football, eventually carving out a Hall of Fame career with the Montreal Alouettes. First there is the Montreal Alouettes' distinctive dark blue helmet of the late-1970s, a standout in this sensational lot of Peter Dalla Riva's personal football equipment. A pair of Dalla Riva's own Riddell football cleats, a white mesh practice jersey with the Hall of Fame tight end's familiar No. 74 and a vintage blue white and red Alouettes equipment bag make up the rest of this exceptional and one-of-a-kind collection which comes with his signed LOA.
The breakdown for Riva’s equipment collection available in this lot is as follows;
The Alouettes' red, white and blue team logo sticker is applied to both sides of Dalla Riva's blue Riddell helmet, which remains in wonderful condition and exhibits some nice use with a few scuffs. The number "74" in white stickers is applied to the rear and a recertification sticker from March 1980 has been placed above the left earhole, over another sticker that has "7 1/4" written on it for sizing. The original canvas suspension and leather pad protection system remains in place inside the helmet, and the white faceguard is attached, along with the helmet's chinstrap. Dalla Riva's size 11 Riddell cleats have five studs on the front of the sole and two on the heel, with some vintage sod and grass fibers still attached. The practice jersey has its original Rawlings size XL tag sewn on the bottom right of the front hem. The No. 74 is heat pressed in blue vinyl numbers onto the front and back of the jersey, which features a nice bit of team repair on the left sleeve. Dalla Riva's vintage blue, white and red vinyl team equipment bag features Sport O'Keefe/Alouettes sponsorship logos on both ends of the bag.
